HEPA-grade & MERV filtration
Whole-home media air filtration
HEPA-grade and high-MERV media filters installed at your air handler. They capture the fine dust, pollen, pet dander and PM2.5 that standard furnace filters let through.
Quick answer
Media air filtration replaces your thin furnace filter with a thick, pleated filter cabinet rated MERV 11 to MERV 16 or HEPA-grade. It captures fine particles, including PM2.5, before they reach your rooms. Breathe Clean Services installs the NovusAer ($2,995), Lennox Carbon Clean 16 ($995), Honeywell F200 MERV 13 ($695) and Honeywell F100 MERV 11 ($595), installation included.

Media Air Filtration
NovusAer Whole-Home Air Purification System
HEPA-grade filtration with the largest filter surface area we install.
- About 230% more media surface area than a Lennox MERV 16 filter (per NovusAer)
- About 5,700% more surface area than a standard furnace filter (per NovusAer)
- Designed for high airflow, so your HVAC system is not starved for air
- Traps fine particles like PM2.5, pollen, dust and pet dander
Media Air Filtration
Lennox Healthy Climate Carbon Clean 16 (MERV 16)
MERV 16 media with activated-carbon fibers for fine particles and odors.
- Lennox rates it to remove over 95% of particles down to 0.3 microns
- Carbon-coated fibers trap pet, cooking and chemical odors
- Converts ground-level ozone to oxygen and emits none (per Lennox)
- Runs on your existing blower. Media lasts about 9 to 12 months
Media Air Filtration
Honeywell F200 Media Air Cleaner (MERV 13)
A solid first upgrade over a standard furnace filter.
- Includes cabinet, access door and MERV 13 filter
- Captures a large share of the airborne particles moving through your system
- Our recommended minimum for most homes
Media Air Filtration
Honeywell F100 Media Air Cleaner (MERV 11)
Basic whole-home media filtration at the lowest cost.
- Includes cabinet, access door and MERV 11 filter
- Catches common dust, lint and pollen
- Good fit where airflow limits higher-MERV media
NovusAer
Surface area is what separates good filtration from great
Every filter is a trade-off between how fine it filters and how freely air flows through it. More media surface area solves that. NovusAer packs in far more filter media than typical systems, so it can filter at a HEPA-grade level while keeping airflow strong and your equipment comfortable.
- More surface area means lower resistance and less strain on your blower
- Fine filtration without trading away comfort or efficiency
- Longer media life because the load is spread across more material
PM2.5
What is PM2.5, and why does it matter at home?
PM2.5 is fine particulate matter 2.5 microns or smaller. About 30 of these particles fit across the width of one human hair. They’re small enough to get past your nose and throat and deep into your lungs.
PM2.5 isn’t just an outdoor problem. Every time your home exchanges air through leaks, open doors, fans or your HVAC system, wildfire smoke and traffic exhaust come in. Cooking, candles and fireplaces add more from the inside.
Who benefits most from cleaner air
- Kids. Their lungs are still developing, and they breathe more air per pound of body weight than adults.
- Older adults. They’re more likely to have heart or breathing conditions that fine particles can aggravate.
- People with asthma, allergies or heart conditions. Fine particles are a known trigger for flare-ups.
- Expectant mothers. Research links PM2.5 exposure to pregnancy outcomes.
- Active people. Exercising at home means deeper breaths that pull particles further into the lungs.

What’s actually inside an air filter?
| Media type | What it does | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Spun fiberglass | Loosely woven; stops large debris to protect equipment | Basic 1-inch furnace filters |
| Pleated polyester or cotton blend | Folds add surface area to catch finer allergens and last longer | MERV 8 to 13 filters and cabinets |
| Electrostatically charged synthetic | A static charge pulls in microscopic particles like smoke and fine dust | MERV 13 to 16 media |
| Activated carbon | Adsorbs household odors, gases and chemical fumes | Lennox Carbon Clean 16 |
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What MERV rating should I use at home?
MERV 13 is a strong baseline for most homes and is our recommended minimum. MERV 16 or HEPA-grade media is worth it for allergies, asthma, wildfire smoke or pets. The key is choosing a cabinet with enough surface area so the higher rating doesn’t restrict airflow.
Will a high-MERV filter hurt my HVAC system?
A thick, high-surface-area media cabinet won’t. Problems happen when a dense 1-inch filter is forced into a slot built for a cheap one. NovusAer and Lennox Carbon Clean 16 are designed for low airflow resistance.
How long does the media last?
Lennox Carbon Clean 16 media typically lasts 9 to 12 months. Honeywell MERV 11 and 13 media usually lasts 6 to 12 months depending on dust, pets and run time. Our Filter Service plan tracks it for you.
What is the difference between HEPA-grade and MERV 16?
Both are high-efficiency. MERV 16 is rated to capture over 95% of particles in the 0.3 to 1 micron range. HEPA-grade systems like NovusAer add much more media surface area, which lets them filter finely while keeping strong airflow.
Performance statements come from each manufacturer’s published product information. These systems are not medical devices and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Results vary with home size, system design, maintenance and household sources of pollution.
