FAQ
All questions
What does a whole-home air purification system do?
It cleans the air as it moves through your heating and cooling system. Media filters capture particles like dust, pollen, pet dander and smoke. UV and PHI units add sanitization for mold, bacteria, viruses and odors. Because your HVAC system circulates all of your home’s air, every room benefits instead of just the one with a portable purifier.
Is installation included in your prices?
Yes. Every listed price includes professional installation by certified HVAC installers. Duct cleaning and biocide treatment are priced per HVAC system.
Which system is best for allergies?
Start with high-efficiency media filtration. The NovusAer HEPA-grade system or the Lennox Carbon Clean 16 (MERV 16) capture the fine particles that trigger most allergy symptoms. Many families pair filtration with a HALO-LED or REME HALO for odors and germs. Take the 60-second System Finder or book a free assessment for a specific recommendation.
Do you work on commercial buildings?
Yes. REME HALO, HALO-LED and the ActivePure Air Scrubber are used in offices, schools, clinics, gyms, restaurants and warehouses. We also install commercial odor control and ScentAir fragrance systems.
How often should filters be changed?
It depends on the media. A Lennox Carbon Clean 16 cartridge typically lasts 9 to 12 months, while a basic 1-inch filter may need changing every 1 to 3 months. Our Filter Service plan handles it on schedule so you never have to remember.
How much does air duct cleaning cost?
At Breathe Clean Services, NADCA-standard duct cleaning is $1,495 per system for homes up to 2,500 sq ft and $2,495 per system from 2,501 to 5,000 sq ft. Homes over 5,000 sq ft are quoted individually.
Does the EPA recommend routine duct cleaning?
No. The EPA does not recommend routine cleaning unless there’s a specific reason: visible mold growth inside hard duct surfaces, pests nesting in vents, excessive dust blowing from registers, or odors from past smoking, pets or water damage. We’ll tell you honestly if your ducts don’t need it.
What is the difference between UV lights and REME HALO?
A UV light like Elite-UV or APCO-X treats surfaces and air right at the lamp, which keeps your coil clean and knocks down mold and odors inside the system. REME HALO and HALO-LED add a catalyst that releases low levels of airborne hydrogen peroxide and ions, which travel through the ducts into your rooms.
Do these systems produce ozone?
HALO-LED and APCO-X are verified zero ozone to the UL 2998 standard, and HALO-LED is CARB certified. The ActivePure Air Scrubber uses ozone-free germicidal UV. If ozone is a concern for your household, we’ll steer you to a UL 2998 verified unit.
What MERV rating should I use at home?
MERV 13 is a strong baseline for most homes and is our recommended minimum. MERV 16 or HEPA-grade media is worth it for allergies, asthma, wildfire smoke or pets. The key is choosing a cabinet with enough surface area so the higher rating doesn’t restrict airflow.
Will a high-MERV filter hurt my HVAC system?
A thick, high-surface-area media cabinet won’t. Problems happen when a dense 1-inch filter is forced into a slot built for a cheap one. NovusAer and Lennox Carbon Clean 16 are designed for low airflow resistance.
What humidity should my home be?
Aprilaire recommends keeping indoor relative humidity between 40% and 60%. In that range you’ll feel more comfortable, and wood floors, furniture and instruments are less likely to crack.
What is the difference between an HRV and an ERV?
Both swap stale indoor air for fresh outdoor air and recover heat. An HRV transfers heat only. An ERV transfers heat and moisture, so it helps keep winter air from getting too dry and pushes summer humidity back outside.
Can I clean mold out of my ducts myself?
Not effectively. DIY cleaning only reaches the vent covers. Mold deeper in the ductwork can’t be reached without professional equipment, and running the system with untreated mold spreads spores into every room.
